Description: Oil painting on canvas signed Laurant (Laurent). This painting depicts a sunlit Parisian street lined with cafes and restaurants. The dark clouds of a threatening summer storm lend drama to the otherwise peaceful Sunday afternoon scene. Circa 1950's.
The note on the stretcher reads: Laurant: Born in Strasbourg 1910, attended the academy of Beaux-Arts in Paris and was drawn into the circle of impressionists. At the beginning of his career he did quite a variety of subjects in this style. Later on he concentrated on the Parisian street scene with great success. In this particular subject he is well known.
Stretcher is stamped: ANCO INC. Glendale NY.
Dimensions: 36.5" (91 cm.) x 24.5" (61 cm).
